Mitsubishi has seen consistent growth over the last year, with 2017 bringing in more than 100,000 vehicle sales for the first time in a decade. 2017 also marks the fifth consecutive year of growth for Mitsubishi, but it goes even further: sales numbers for the year show that Mitsubishi Motors is the fastest-growing non-luxury brand in the United States for 2017, according to December reports from Wards Auto.

Overall, the industry struggled this year with a 1.8% decline in sales numbers. At the same time, Mitsubishi strode forward with significant growth; a year-over-year sales increase of 7.7% from 2016 to 2017.

“2017 was a challenging year for the industry,” said Mitsubishi’s executive vice president, Don Swearingen. “However Mitsubishi was able to defy the trend and prove that it has the right products at the right time.

Mitsubishi’s crossover utility vehicle (CUV) lineup did exceptionally well this year, with the three-row Outlander earning its best-ever sales year. Selling 35,310 vehicles, the model saw a 32.9% year-over-year increase. Mitsubishi also introduced its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Outlander, which helped boost sales numbers for December 2017.

“Mitsubishi’s CUV line-up posted banner sales, up 15% over 2016,” said Swearingen. “Customer demand for these vehicles is as high as it has ever been due to a combination of style, technology, performance, and value.”

The brand is hoping to push sales even further in 2018 with its two new CUV models: the Eclipse Cross and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. “The highly anticipated Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) just began shipping to our dealers, and the all-new Eclipse Cross will arrive in showrooms in March,” explained Swearingen. “These two new vehicles, combined with the Outlander and Outlander Sport will give Mitsubishi a family of CUVs that is unmatched in the industry.”
