Mitsubishi Motors Offers Career Readiness Courses to Displaced Employees
Mitsubishi is offering employees displaced by the closing of the brand’s Normal, Illinois assembly plant free career readiness workshops
Mitsubishi isn’t one to leave its employees to fend for themselves—even its former employees. While the Japanese carmaker recently closed down its assembly plant in Normal, Illinois, it’s been doing everything it can to help displaced employees. It has even set up a scholarship fund for schools in the Normal area.
Now, though, Mitsubishi is taking its plan to help its previous employees one step further. The carmaker has joined together with Heartland Community College in Normal to offer career readiness workshops for those employees looking for new jobs after the closing of the plant. These workshops cover everything an unemployed person could possible need, including cover letter and resume writing and exploring various career options. They will also offer lessons on job hunting, career planning, and interviewing skills.
The first workshops took place at the Mitsubishi plant earlier this month, while more are scheduled in December at another location. Illinois Central College in East Peoria will also offer similar workshops. Each workshop is one hour long, followed by an hour-long session of one-on-one assistance to help cater to everyone’s needs.
Every workshop is free for Mitsubishi employees and former employees, and is funded through a grant from the US Department of Labor.
