Mitsubishi Motors Posts Best February Sales Since 2008
Mitsubishi seems to have completed the slow climb back to where it was before the recession considering its enjoyed its 12th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases and the best February numbers since 2008. Compared to last February, sales were up 26%.
Most of February’s success is a result of a dramatic increase in Lancer sales, up 64% over last February. Why are so many people buying Lancers this year? Perhaps because it’s the last year of the legendary Evolution trim level?
Compared to last February, the award-winning Mitsubishi Mirage compact car is also doing very well, enjoying its best month since it was launched in the US in 2013. The Mitsubishi Mirage remains the most efficient gasoline powered non-hybrid car on the market, and it’s pretty damn cheap, which is the perfect recipe for a frugal commuter car.
Don Swearingen, Executive VP of Mitsubishi Motors North America, said, “Our dealers are seeing increased traffic, posting strong sales with our core models. We are looking forward to a good sales year that will be bolstered by launching new and significantly redesigned versions of key models throughout the year starting next month at the New York International Auto Show.”
The Japanese automaker recently revealed two new concept cars at Geneva and Chicago, which preview the future of the brand’s design and powertrain options.
Although the Lancer and Mirage did quite well, sales of the Outlander were down slightly. The Outlander Sport remains Mitsubishi’s money maker with 2,394 units sold last month.
