Mitsubishi Outlander and Outlander Sport Named ‘Recommended Used Vehicle for Teens’ by IIHS
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an independent organization dedicated to reducing injuries, deaths, and property damage from motor vehicle crashes, has released a new list of the safest, most affordable used car offerings for teenagers on the market.
Two of the best choices, according to the IIHS, are used Mitsubishi Outlander models (2014 and newer) and Outlander Sport models (2011 and newer), which begin at $10,700 and $6,900, respectively.
According to the IIHS, 83% of parents who bought a vehicle for their teenagers said they bought it used. With that in mind, the Institute set out to find the safest vehicles for teenagers with prices ranging from $2,000 to $20,000, while adhering to four main criteria: the cars can’t be too small (only midsize cars and bigger qualify), the engines can’t be too powerful, electronic stability control must be a feature, and vehicles should have at least four stars for overall safety and a top safety score for side and head restraint as well as in the moderate overlap front crash test.

“Mitsubishi Motors prides itself on consistently delivering top safety features at an affordable price to ensure our customers receive the best possible value,” said Don Swearingen, executive vice president and chief operating officer, MMNA. “As top sellers and leaders in reliability for the brand, the Outlander and Outlander Sport offer sound reassurance for parents searching for a car for their teen that is both safety conscious and engineered with precision.”
