Outlander PHEV

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will have sold over 10,000 units in the United Kingdom by the end of this month, which will put it ahead of all other plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicles in the country, including the popular Nissan LEAF.

Capable of up to 32.5 all-electric miles, the Outlander PHEV is a great choice for urban businesses, who can benefit from a substantial Plug-in Car Grant from the government totaling a maximum of £8,000 for fleet vehicles or £5,000 for personal vehicles.

Here in the States, we won’t see the Outlander PHEV until at least April of 2016 after it was delayed due to battery shortages and our increasingly complicated vehicle regulations, of which most of the blame falls on the State of California. New EV laws there require a sensor to monitor degradation of the lithium batteries. Our Outlander PHEV is expected to be a little different than the UK version, and will probably look different as well since a new Outlander is expected to be revealed at the New York International Auto Show next month.

By the time it reaches American shores, it’ll have some fierce competition from the Volvo XC90 plug-in SUV and the all-electric Tesla Model X. Based on its strong performance in the UK, however, things should be looking good for the Outlander PHEV when it arrives.
