As we reported earlier, Mitsubishi announced that it was going to give a pizza delivery guy in Boston a 2015 Outlander to deliver pizzas during Super Bowl XLIX. The automaker was serious, and the result was pretty awesome.

In this social media promotion titled #ProtectThePie, Mitsubishi teamed up with DaCoopas Pizza & Subs in Boston to promote the 2015 Outlander GT, recently named an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. John Francis, a true American hero, drove the Outlander during the game to deliver pizzas safely to the residents of Boston, the home town of the New England Patriots.

John delivered over 200 pizzas during the course of the big game, stopping only briefly to catch up on the score and talk some trash to Seahawks fans. He said that the Seahawks would choke, and choke they did. John also took over the Mitsubishi Twitter account to provide updates during the game.

Mitsubishi OutlanderThe 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander is arguably one of the best SUVs at protecting pizzas thanks to new safety tech like Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Mitigation, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

It’s also got Hill Start Assist with stability and traction control that certainly must have come in handy on Sunday, as Boston received more than 2 feet of snow during winter storm Juno.

The pizza protecting patriot, John himself, says, “Wow, look at that! Nice caaaah!”

Mitsubishi produced a short documentary about the event, which you can find below. We’ve got respect for Mitsubishi putting a new spin on Super Bowl campaigns. This one may not have received much attention, but it was certainly creative and had a much more human touch than the typical big budget Super Bowl commercials.
