Mitsubishi R5 Rally Car Completes Gravel Testing in North Wales
The Mirage-based rally car known as the R5 completed its gravel testing at a rally event held in North Wales last weekend and is headed back to Sweden for adjustments based on what the team learned from this test and the asphalt test held the week before.
The car ended up running without issue as it did at its asphalt test in Holland, setting the 2nd fastest time on two of the six stages. Although the car was not actually entered in the race and only participated for the purpose of testing, the R5 placed fifth overall. The R5 team thinks they could have done better had the windshield not fogged-up, blocking the driver’s sight. As you can see from the video below, the gravel course was wet and foggy.
The Mitsubishi R5 is a Mirage with beefed-up suspension and a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine donated by the Lancer Evolution X and heavily modified. The R5 puts down 280 horsepower to all four wheels through a Sadev five-speed transmission.
