Mitsubishi continues to find sales success after posting a 38.9% year-over-year increase in September.  Mitsubishi’s presser calls the feat “remarkable,” and while we’re not sure that selling 5,558 vehicles in a month is anything that fits the connotation of something that is unbelievable or extraordinary, it certainly does abide by the denotation of something worthy of remark. And so, let us remark.

The delivery of 5,558 new vehicles in September is certainly a huge leap over the 4,001 vehicles Mitsubishi shipped in September 2013. Much of this leap can be attributed to the continued success of the Mirage, which launched only a year ago.

In its first month of sales, the Mirage moved 20 examples; comparatively, the Mirage moved 1,340 units this past September. That’s a 6600% year-over-year increase, which is a number that could be construed as remarkable despite the obvious skew of comparing the first month of a vehicle’s sales to that of its 13th.

Still, the Mirage is a continued bright spot for Mitsubishi, as is the Outlander Sport. Mitsubishi shipped 2,351 Outlander Sport models in September, good for a legit 28.3% year-over-year increase. The Outlander Sport remains Mitsu’s biggest seller by a country mile, having increased sales by 25% to-date with deliveries totaling 23,152 units.

“Thanks to our all-new Mitsubishi Mirage, the redesigned Outlander and the updated Outlander Sport, Mitsubishi Motors is continuing its positive sales momentum throughout 2014,” said MMNA Executive Vice President of Sales, Don Swearingen. “Our customers are responding very positively to these vehicles thanks to their excellent fuel efficiency, plentiful features and outstanding affordability.”

Apart from the Mirage and the Outlander Sport, Mitsubishi’s lineup continues to be down. Sales of the i-MiEV were down 25%, the Lancer was down 10.9%, and the Outlander was down 10.8%.

Still, September marked the brand’s best September sales tally since 2011 its seventh straight month of YoY sales increases, sales of the Outlander are up 16.4% to-date, and overall Mitsubishi sales are up 29.8% to-date.
