The world of reviewing cars is an odd one. On the one hand, we count on car reviewers to provide us with a more-or-less objective opinion about specific cars that we either continue to dream about or make the decision to buy them; on the other, reviewers rarely get to spend significant amounts of time with the cars whose qualities and shortcomings they then share with us. They also tend to get behind the wheel of many amazing vehicles that most of us could never dream of driving, which probably skews their perception of cars compared to the norm.

That means that at the end of the day, it can be hard to reconcile a professional reviewer’s opinion with what an average consumer might experience in the “real world.”

If you’re particularly interested in the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, however, you may want to keep your eye on what Motor Trend has in store. After naming it their 2016 Car of the Year, Motor Trend journalists have now taken delivery of a Camaro SS that they will keep for an entire year, during which it’ll undergo just about every test you can name and, more importantly, be used as a regular car more akin to the way actual Camaro owners would live with one.

The downside is—well, it’s a whole year. If you’re on the fence about buying a Camaro now, you probably don’t want to wait that long before finally making a decision. Still, if you’re not in a rush, waiting might be the right idea if you want to find out what living with a Camaro for a year is like.
