The 2015 Ram 1500 is Motor Trend’s 2015 Half-Ton Pickup Shootout winner.

As you might have guessed, the 2015 Ram 1500 was named the winner of Motor Trend’s 2015 Half-Ton Pickup Shootout at the end of last month. The Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado continue to outsell the Ram 1500, despite its constant victories over the former two in almost every competition in which they face off. To the Ram 1500’s credit, however, the Ram Truck brand began just five years ago, and in that time, Ram has almost doubled its market share.

In Motor Trend’s 2015 Half-Ton Pickup Shootout, the three top-selling trucks were tested on a 260-mile drive through eastern California, as well as western Arizona. The judges measured the trucks’ performances in a number of tests. Standard testing (without load) included 0 -60 mph and ¼-mile times, as well as 60 – 0 braking and maximum lateral grip. The judges also tested towing with 7,000 pounds and handling, using closed-course cornering, braking, and acceleration. They also did payload testing (1,000 pounds) and fuel economy testing.

Those figures, matched with driving impression, ultimately decided the winner.

“This is a strong third-party testimonial of Ram’s place in the market and contributes to the justification of long hours and hard work to deliver the best trucks available,” said Bob Hegbloom, President and CEO of Ram Truck Brand. “Just five years after becoming its own brand Ram Truck has nearly doubled its market share and earned best-in-class titles in fuel economy, torque, payload and towing. The half-ton segment is a severely competitive environment and winning Motor Trend’s half-ton shootout validates that we have the top truck in the segment.”
