2014 Silverado 1500 Fleet Truck of the Year
There’s nothing like a good consensus, right? When multiple parties agree on something, it likely points to a realized truth about the subject, which only means good things for the all-new Silverado. Just recently, Automotive and Business Fleet magazines named the 2014 Silverado 1500 Fleet Truck of the Year, distinguishing it from the competition as the ideal truck for business owners.
Every year, this noteworthy award is given out to the most deserving truck, determined by qualified fleet managers that are representative of various industry segments, as well as fleet sizes. Sherb Brown, vice president and group publisher for Bobit Business Media’s FleetGroup, commented, “We are proud to recognize the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 2013 Fleet Truck of the Year award. The Truck of the Year award is voted on every year by fleet managers, making this a real honor for vehicle manufacturers that serve this professional segment.”
So what sets the Silverado 1500 apart from the competition of 35 other trucks? Completely restyled for the 2014 model year, the Silverado was designed to suit a variety of on-the-job situations. Important workplace features include upper tie-down hooks, handholds built into the box rail, and under-rail light-emitting diode (LED) lighting. Incredibly innovative are the standard CornerStep bumper and the EZ Lift and Lower tailgate.
The base Silverado is powered by a 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6, but drivers in need of even more power can opt for the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8, which is surprisingly efficient at 23 mpg on the highway. Yup, an even better rating than the Ford EcoBoost V6. Offering best-in-class towing (7,600 pounds), the Silverado clearly gets the job done.
“The Silverado 1500 continues the Chevy tradition of offering the most dependable and longest lasting truck in the marketplace,” reported Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, GM Fleet and Commercial Sales. “Not only does the 2014 Silverado offer the most torque and highest towing rating of any standard V6, its fuel efficiency is important to fleet customers’ bottom line.”
