NASCAR Recap: Logano Edges Harvick for Sprint Cup Series Win at Bristol
Joey Logano drove his No. 22 Ford Fusion to his 11th career win in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Saturday night by winning the Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Logano took the lead on lap 438 and had to outrace the No. 4 Chevrolet SS driven by Kevin Harvick over the final 63 laps to pick up his third win of the 2015 season. Logano won the race only by a slim .220-second margin over the defending Sprint Cup Series Champion.
This was Harvick’s second consecutive runner-up finish. He was bested by Matt Kenseth’s No. 20 Toyota Camry last week at Michigan International Speedway and was also leading the August 9th race at Watkins Glenn International, before running out of gas on the final lap.
The No. 11 Camry driven Denny Hamlin finished in third, Clint Boyer’s No. 15 Toyota came in fourth, and the top-five was rounded out by Brad Keselowski’s No. 2 Ford Fusion.
Harvick still leads the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in the overall standings with 908 points. Logano is currently second in points with 865, while fan favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. is third in the standings, only 89 points behind the leader.
There are only two races remaining before the start of the NASCAR playoffs.
Next week, the Sprint Cup Series has the weekend off, but it will get back to work on September 6th at Darlington Raceway. The Bojangles Southern 500 is scheduled to begin at 7pm and will be broadcasted on NBC.
