Across the United States, we are blessed with gorgeous parks and other public lands that not only provide us with places to hike, birdwatch, or run; but also provide safe homes for the flora and fauna native to each part of the land. National Public Lands Day, which is sponsored by Toyota, encourages people to get out and give back to their parks and other public lands in order to preserve them for generations to come.

National Public Lands Day takes place on Saturday, September 27, 2014. On this day, volunteers across the country will work together to help build or maintain trails, plant trees, replace signs, and remove invasive plants and litter. Among these volunteers will be more than 3,900 Toyota employees and their families giving their time at 40 different public lands across 17 states and Puerto Rico. Since Toyota became a sponsor of the event back in 1999, 32,665 Toyota employees have volunteered at 427 different sites. The work they’ve done includes removing approximately 192,150 pounds of trash, clearing 4,270 pounds of vegetation, building or maintaining 282 miles of trails, and planting 21,350 trees, shrubs, and other vegetation.

Michael Rouse, Toyota Motor Sales’ vice president of diversity, philanthropy and community affairs, commented, “This unique sponsorship supports Toyota’s global commitment to environmental stewardship by providing our employees with meaningful volunteer opportunities to help improve public lands in their local communities.”

Toyota employees aren’t the only ones who can step up on September 27th. If you’d like to volunteer this National Public Lands Day, head to http://www.publiclandsday.org/ and sign up at a park near you!
