Nationwide Takata Airbag Recall On Its Way
Although the Japanese company Takata has insisted that its faulty, exploding airbags are only really explodey in humid climates, such as Florida, there has been mounting pressure for Takata to recall and fix all of the 14 million affected vehicles; not just the 4.1 million covered by the US regional recall. Now the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has made the mandate official by issuing a nationwide Takata airbag recall.
According to Reuters, if Takata doesn’t comply by today, December 2nd, the government can force a recall and fine the manufacturing company up to $7,000 per vehicle.
Of all the companies affected by the Takata airbag recall, Honda – Takata’s largest customer – has been the hardest hit (although no one seems to have told Honda’s customers). BMW, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, and Toyota have also been affected.
This is going to be one of the biggest recalls in recent memory, so in the immortal words of Samuel L. Jackson:
Patrick Grieve was born in Southwestern Ohio and has lived there all of his life, with the exception of a few years spent getting a Creative Writing degree in Southeastern Ohio. He loves to take road trips, sometimes to places as distant as Northeastern or even Northwestern Ohio. Patrick also enjoys old movies, shopping at thrift stores, going to ballgames, writing about those things, and watching Law & Order reruns. He just watches the original series, though, none of the spin-offs. And also only the ones they made before Jerry Orbach died. Season five was really the peak, in his opinion.
