In the midst of the tragic effects of the earthquake that rocked Nepal on April 25th and took the lives of over 8,000 people, the Hyundai Motor Company is stepping in to bring relief to those affected by this tragedy. Immediately after another 7.3-magnitude aftershock today, in a generous move by the automaker, Hyundai has donated $300,000 to the Nepal Red Cross Society for earthquake relief efforts–more than twice as much as other automakers.

Hyundai’s donation of $300,000 will help humanitarian relief and rebuilding efforts in Nepal, which has been recovering from two catastrophic earthquakes–including one today, May 12th. But that’s not the only assistance the automaker is offering. Hyundai is getting involved personally–assisting vehicle owners with services such as the Before Service, which involves repairing damaged cars through special discounts.

“We would like to express our sincere condolences and best wishes to the thousands of people affected by the earthquake, as well as our hopes that the damage can be repaired as soon as possible,” said Sanqmin Park, Head of Hyundai Motor’s Asia & Pacific Regional Headquarters at the handover on May 11th. “The global response to this tragedy has been extraordinary, and Hyundai Motor will be looking into additional ways to support the ongoing relief and rebuilding efforts.”

In the past, Hyundai has donated vans to fight ebola in West Africa as well as aided in financial effort after the typhoon in Thailand (2013), earthquake in Chile (2010), earthquake in Haiti (2009), and many other disasters. It’s all part of the company’s social responsibility initiatives.
