New 2016 CX-9 Scores Big Sales for Mazda in June
Mazda reported sales in the United States totaling 26,188 vehicles in June, down 3.8% year-over-year. The automaker’s stats were bolstered by the first full sales month for the new 2016 CX-9, which led to a 20.7% year-over-year increase for the namebadge and gave the SUV its best June in three years.

Mazda notes that sales of the CX-9’s Signature and Grand Touring trims have been strong due to high customer demand, and it anticipates that those numbers will continue to be strong as its supply rises to meet that demand. Sales in June were so strong that they more than doubled the CX-9’s running total from the first five months of the year, bringing the model’s sales total for 2016 to 3,681 units.
Volume-wise, Mazda was led by the CX-5, which saw its second-best June on record with 9,227 units delivered. Sales of the CX-5 were only 1.6% down from its record-setting June of last year. Through six months of sales, Mazda has delivered a total of 51,611 CX-5s, making it the brand’s volume leader for the first half.
The MX-5 Miata put up its best June in eight years with a sales total of 889 units, up 102% year-over-year. Sales of the new Miata are up 102.9% through six months, with Mazda having moved 5,384 units of its beloved roadster through June.
Sales of the Mazda3 totaled 8,399 units in June, down 12.7% year-over-year. Sales of the CX-3 totaled 1,512 units, bringing its to-date total to 9,502 sales. Other highlights reported by Mazda include 63% of all vehicles sold featuring the i-ACTIV All-Wheel Drive System and an 11% year-over-year increase for Mazda Certified Pre-Owned sales.
Through the first half of 2016, Mazda’s US sales total 145,354 units, down 8.6% from its sales through June 2015.
