General Motors is opting to debut the next-generation Verano not in the Big Apple or at any future American auto show, but rather in China at the Shanghai Motor Show. And why not; Buick is the third-most-popular brand in the country, and it outsells fellow GM brand Cadillac by an average number of about 13 vehicles to one.

Shanghai GM will unveil the Verano, which will be called Wei Lang in the Chinese marketplace, on April 19th before Auto Shanghai 2015 gets underway. It’s said that the new Verano will be inspired by both the 2013 Buick Riviera Concept and the Avenir Concept that debuted earlier this year at the North American International Auto Show.

GM is staying somewhat mum on the Verano/Wei Lang, likely waiting to spill until the sheet is thrown off on Sunday. The teaser image reveals some mild aesthetic alterations including flowing body lines and reshaped tail lamps. Here’s hoping that the front end looks just as sharp—preferably with colored Buick tri-shield—and that it winds up in the states here before too long.

Stay tuned for the full reveal later this week.
