SAIC General Motors released the all-new Chevrolet Malibu for the Chinese market on Monday, launching six variants ranging from RMB 164,900 to RMB 199,900 (approximately $26,000 USD to $31,500 USD).

Comparatively, the 2016 Malibu that will be released in America carries a base starting price of $22,500, and the top-end Malibu Premium will start at $31,795.

The Malibu that debuted yesterday is not the same model that Chevrolet revealed for the United States earlier this year; rather, it’s a significantly revamped version of the current eighth-gen model. It sports “eagle eye-shaped headlights” as well as three-dimensional dual-port grille and foglamps, bold lines across the hood and body sides, and various design elements that are in at least some part influenced by the Corvette and Camaro.

The engine choices remain unchanged with either the 2.4-liter EcoTec SIDI four-cylinder or the 2.0-liter DVVT available, but a new six-speed automatic transmission and a revised chassis provide a more responsive, sportier feel. On the inside, the Malibu gets Datura Purple upholstery with French dual stitching, chrome accents, and corrugated surfaces. These aspects, GM hopes, will help the Malibu be of more eminent appeal to younger, more affluent Chinese drivers.

Chevy MyLink 2.1

The addition of Chevrolet MyLink 2.1 infotainment, making its debut in the new Malibu, will also be a means to capture younger buyers’ attention. MyLink 2.1 will be compatible with Apple and Android devices and will allow for hands-free calling and voice-activation technology.
