New Commercial Insinuates Birds Enjoy Cruising in Fiat Convertibles More Than Flying

Fiat’s new “Fly Like A Bird” commercial used Eagles to film aerial shots of the new 124 Spider convertible

It appears that even birds of prey are eagerly awaiting the release of the 2017 124 Spider

In the United States, on the back of each standard quarter is a bald eagle, which is used to represent freedom, but this large bird of prey may soon be by replaced by the new 124 Spider convertible if Fiat gets its way.

While the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider has yet to be released to the public, it does finally have it own commercial titled “Free Like A Bird,” which is partially directed by three white-tailed eagles that were fitted with remote cameras, as they flew over Fiat’s newest convertible.

Fiat enlisted the services of Jacques-Olivier Travers to shoot the advertisement. Travers is a professional falconer and he brought three of Europe’s largest eagles to the set of this creative new commercial to capture the bird’s-eye view perspective of the new 124 Spider. After capturing those aerial shots, the eagle landed on the back of the new Spider, which inspired the commercial’s narrator to proclaim, “We all want to be as free as the birds, but maybe the birds want to be as free as us.”

Powered by a turbocharged engine rated at 160 horsepower, the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider certainly had enough juice to handle the twisty shore side roads of Campania, which is located in the southeast region of Italy and is where this commercial was filmed.

A 1967 124 Spider was also featured at the beginning of the advertisement, and the upcoming release of 2017 124 Spider will honor the 50th anniversary of the classic convertible.

“There’s no better way to celebrate 50 years of the Fiat 124 Spider than to bring back this iconic roadster, pairing its Italian styling of the past with all of the modern performance and technology of today,” Head of Fiat Olivier François is quoted as saying. “The 124 Spider expands the Fiat family, bringing to market yet another head-turning, fun-to-drive vehicle for our customers.”

In addition, at the end of the “Fly Like A Bird” commercial, Fiat announced, “No animals were harmed in the making of this film.”
