New Face of the 2018 Hyundai Sonata Drawn at New York Auto Show [PHOTOS]
New York’s Jacob Javits Convention Center is buzzing with excitement today as the floor is filled with automakers revealing their newest production and concept vehicles. With the 2017 auto show season in full swing, automakers like Hyundai are far from finished unveiling their upcoming models.
With other entries in Hyundai’s lineup receiving refreshes this season, such as the Elantra GT and the Accent, it’s about time the safe, conventional Hyundai Sonata got a makeover.
That’s exactly what we saw at Hyundai’s press conference at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

Affable and Affordable: Hyundai Reveals Pleasantly Redesigned 2018 Sonata
Taking the stage first at Hyundai’s press conference today at the 2017 New York International Auto Show was Mike O’Brien, head of product planning. Instead of running through the usual over-hyped, overblown reveal presentation, O’Brien brought on two of the company’s designers to sketch and discuss the inspiration for the Sonata’s new appearance.
Live on stage, the two experts sketched the Sonata’s new form, starting with the silhouette and its forward-leaning stance by lengthening the hood, eventually progressing to the new rear end and license plate placement.
Not only is the 2018 Sonata getting a refreshed face with the brand’s new cascading grille style, it’s imbued with more standard features and retooled performance. Beginning with the 2018 model, all Sonatas will come with blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, vertical LED daytime running lights, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and enhance rear suspension–in addition to available heated/ventilated front seats, Infinity sound system, AVN 5.0 multimedia system, wireless device charging, and a dozen other enhancements.
The biggest highlights, though, are the new SEL trim level and the model’s first-ever eight-speed automatic transmission (Turbo trim only).
The Sonata has established a reputation for being a great family sedan, and with its next iteration here, it will no doubt keep future families comfortable and connected.
