New Ford Ranger

Good news, folks! The all-new Ford Ranger has been revealed (spoilers: it’s basically the same thing we already saw in December), and it looks really, really neat! It’ll be going on sale in early 2016 in Europe and more than 180 markets worldwide. Oh, but it’s almost certainly not going to be coming to the United States. Did we mention there was bad news? Yeah, well: bad news. Thanks, Ford. Way to give us another reason to hate Mondays.

The new Ranger was revealed today at the Bangkok Motor Show, showing off a revamped face with trapezoidal grille and burly new hood that give it a decidedly daring look. On the inside, there’s a greater emphasis on synergy and space with flowing lines and a greatest sense of openness.

Space everywhere

Technically speaking, the Ranger is largely unchanged—powered by a standard 3.2-liter five-cylinder diesel or optional 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel and 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engines—save for the availability of Auto-Start-Stop technology and longer final drive ratios that serve to increase fuel efficiency by as much as 18%.

The 2015 Ranger comes with a number of other unique new features including an optional suite of driver assistance technologies such as: Lane Keeping Alert and Lane Keeping Aid, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Alert, Front and Rear Park Assist, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Electronic Stability Control, and Driver Alert—a technology that uses a front-facing camera and on-board sensors to detect a driver’s level of drowsiness and issue alerts and corrective actions when necessary.

“When we set out to improve upon the Ford Ranger, we knew we had our work cut out for us: the current Ranger is one of the toughest, most capable trucks out there,” said Richard Tilley, vehicle line director, Ford Asia Pacific. “But thanks to our proud truck heritage and global expertise in the utility segment, we’ve made what was great even better. With improved efficiency, refinement and a range of smart new technologies, the new Ranger redefines what customers can expect from a tough and capable pickup truck.”

Sounds great! Now bring it to America, please.
