New Kia Rio Model Might Boast GT Badge
The compact hot hatch segment is about to get even more competitive. Rumors are swirling, and it looks like Kia might be introducing a brand-new Kia Rio GT model, which will offer consumers the perfect mixture of hatchback style and spunky performance.
According to a recent report from Autocar, Kia will introduce a sportier Kia Rio model with the GT designation. The Korean carmaker plans to use this model to go head-to-head with hot hatch rivals like the Ford Fiesta ST.
The Rio GT will sit on an updated platform, which is meant to save weight and improve its aerodynamics. Its interior and infotainment system will also be more advanced, offering performance features and more. Kia will even offer a lengthy list of performance-oriented powertrains, the least of which is the popular 1.0-liter gas engine.
This new GT model will launch alongside Kia’s long-awaited sports car, which is set for a reveal at the Paris Motor Show later this year, in 2018. There’s no saying that either of these GT models will make their way to American shores, but we can all hope, can’t we?
