‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ helps explain Nissan IntelligentLast year, Nissan struck gold with its partnership with Lucasfilm. To promote the studio’s 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Nissan released a special edition of its appropriately named Nissan Rogue, as well as a commercial showing the SUV taking on the advanced vehicles of the film franchise’s world. For this year’s film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Nissan will take the opportunity to explain some futuristic technology of its own, also known as Nissan Intelligent Mobility.

If you have spent any time at all with the Nissan brand, you have heard the name Nissan Intelligent Mobility before. The features in this system are derived from the research and engineering Nissan invests in to create prototypes for self-driving cars. While Nissan vehicles aren’t quite ready to navigate the streets, many of the Nissan Intelligent Mobility features act as a copilot for drivers to keep an extra set of eyes on the road. These features include ProPILOT Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Blind Spot Warning.

To explain the technology in simpler terms, Nissan will compare its Nissan Intelligent Mobility system by comparing it to the relationship between droid BB-8, pilot Poe Dameron, and their X-wing Starfighter.  While Poe Dameronis in complete control of his fighter, BB-8 gives him extra confidence by seeing in the fighter’s blind spots and analyzing risks ahead. Nissan drivers can have the same confidence in their vehicle’s advanced technology when properly equipped.

So far, Nissan has released three videos commemorating the partnership, as well as offering Star Wars official accessories for the Nissan Rogue, Altima, and Sentra. Take a look at the videos below, and don’t forget to go see The Last Jedi when it opens in theaters on December 15th.
