2015 Nissan Pathfinder

The Nissan Pathfinder is on track to receive an update for the 2017 model year, and thanks to spy photographers we have a glimpse of its new exterior.

As Autoblog points out when they shared the images, it seems as if the nose of the new Pathfinder looks very similar to the redesigned 2016 Nissan Altima, suggesting that this could be the grille style of Nissan vehicles moving forward. Both grilles look like a slightly-less dramatic version of the Nissan Maxima, which forgoes the Altima’s chrome bars for a sportier black honeycomb that makes the Nissan badge float.

While the current Pathfinder’s fog lights seem to be attached as an afterthought, only embellished with a bit of chrome, the new Pathfinder seems to have fog lights set into a black plastic pocket. While you would think that chrome would easily trump plastic, the plastic seems to be more thought out and sculpted to match the design of the vehicle.

There’s no word from Nissan yet as to when we can expect the new Pathfinder to be revealed. The peeks we have seen at the SUV, though, suggest a less striking update than the Maxima and Murano’s recent overhaul. That’s slightly disappointing, as the Nissan Murano’s restyling gave it a dramatic new look, almost reminiscent of a concept, to help it stand out in the SUV crowd. As the 2017 model year draws closer, we will see if the Nissan Pathfinder’s interior and powertrain updates are slightly more impressive.
