2016 Opel Astra TCR Race Car

Have you heard of the Touringcar Racer International Series (TCR)? It’s a new European racing series that debuted this year, and it focuses on cars that are closer to the models sold in dealerships. That helps keep costs low to allow a bigger variety of race teams to participate.

Opel has revealed a new racing version of the Astra just for races like these. It’s pretty similar to the Opel and Vauxhall Astras available on the market, but without all the creature comforts the average consumer demands. A race car driver would be distracted by a GPS and audio system, so why add them to the car in the first place?

Now, saying the vehicle lacks comfort doesn’t mean that it’s just a bare-bones car. What it lacks in fancy trim it makes up in racing expertise. The car has had several features added, like safety items to keep a driver safe if the car should crash. There are also new aerodynamic features like a rear spoiler to help the car move faster.

Saying that a race car is more affordable than the average circuit racer doesn’t mean that it’s cheap. Buying an Opel Astra TCR race car will set you back about 95,000 euros. The car will be available for purchase to race teams after its final testing this month for delivery in February before the new TCR season.
