New Technologies for Mustang, F-150

Two of the most hotly anticipated vehicles of 2014 are bound by the Big Blue Oval: the 2015 Ford Mustang and 2015 Ford F-150. Ahead of the impending releases of both vehicles, Ford has announced that the next-gen models will utilize a number of new technologies and techniques that will not only make them the best vehicles in their respective classes, but will also influence future generations of Ford vehicles.

New Technologies for Mustang, F-150As part of our One Ford plan, our suppliers are critical to creating profitable growth for all,” said Hau Thai-Tang, group vice president, Ford Global Purchasing. “With the industry’s highest product refresh rates, commitment to product excellence and innovation, and clear brand positioning, Ford is a preferred customer with the supply base.”

During the Center for Automotive Research Management Briefing Seminal, Thai-Tang listed numerous Ford-supplier technologies that are firsts in the automotive industry, further proving that Ford is looking to pave the way to a more sustainable future. These technologies include:

  • Quarter windows for the 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Years Limited Edition that feature industry-first louvered glass
  • Hydroformed A-pillars and roof rails for the 2015 Mustang, engineered with Schuler and Midway
  • A stronger and lighter high-strength steel frame for the 2015 F-150, co-engineered with Metalsa
  • LED headlamps for the F-150, a first for the pickup segment, engineered with OSRAM and Flex-n-Gate

New Technologies for Mustang, F-150These technologies and techniques also demonstrate the importance of Ford’s Matched Pairs system, part of Ford’s Aligned Business Framework, which streamlines the processes through which new and exciting technologies reach consumers and simplifies internal company communications.

“Many technologies on the road today were developed as a result of our supplier relationships,” said Thai-Tang. “We will continue to strive to be our suppliers’ customer of choice through our continued new product introductions and emphasis on technology excellence.”
