New ‘Top Gear’ Hosts Criticized for Stunt near London War Memorial
Top Gear just wouldn’t be Top Gear without some controversy—and it looks like the newest hosts will have plenty of scandals to fill the shoes of Jeremy Clarkson.
Former Friends star Matt LeBlanc was recently rebuked by a retired British colonel after paparazzi images showed him performing stunts for the show near The Cenotaph, one of London’s most famous war memorials which honors those who lost their lives in WWI.

“This is a sacred tribute to millions of people who have done far more for their country than Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc ever will,” said former army colonel Richard Kemp to The Daily Telegraph. “Jeremy Clarkson was certainly no saint, but I don’t believe he would have ever performed a stunt in such bad taste.”
Ouch.

Chris Evans,Top Gear’s main host, used his BBC radio show to apologize “unreservedly” after hearing of the veteran’s disappointment in Top Gear. He stated that he understood the upheaval the stunt had caused, regardless of how close the filming had actually been to the memorial.
Evans continued stating that he doesn’t believe the footage near the memorial should be shown on the show, though he has no control over the matter.
As far as Top Gear controversies go, this one has a lot to live up to. Over the years that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May hosted the British car show, they had more controversies than we can count, including a variety of racial slurs and references to things that really shouldn’t be referenced.
