The Subaru WRX and WRX STI received some decent updates for 2018

Earlier in the month at the Detroit Auto Show, Subaru unveiled upgraded versions of both the WRX and the WRX STI. These two sporty vehicles are staples to Subaru’s cool factor and it definitely makes sense that the automaker would pay so much attention to detail on them for the future. Following its eighth year of record breaking sales, Subaru is sure to follow this trend moving forward with continuous updates and concept vehicles on hand.

Some of the updates on the WRX vehicles include revised front styling, optimized suspension, performance package options, and upgraded interior materials. Subaru’s intention with the restyled front fascia was to convey an even sportier attitude highlighted by the more pronounced grille. Redesigned LED lights on the WRX Limited and all STIs allow for greater visibility as well.

2018 WRX Updates

The already powerful WRX features a 2.0-liter direct injection turbocharged BOXER engine with Active Torque Vectoring and Symmetrical All Wheel Drive. New front and rear suspension tuning allows for improved steering stability and ride comfort. What will truly make driving the WRX easier is the finely tuned 6-speed manual transmission with a new synchro design and reduced friction.

There’s also an optional Performance Package available for the WRX Premium that gives the vehicle Recaro 8-way power seats, red-painted brake calipers and upgraded JURID brake pads, and removes the moonroof to reduce weight.

2018 WRX STI Updates

Handling improvements are also present on the WRX STI update, including the revised suspension tuning featured on the WRX. What’s most impressive on the new STI is the enhanced Brembo Performance Brake System with yellow-painted brake calipers. The previous DCCD system on the STI used a combination of electronic and mechanical components have now been switched completely to electronic for a smoother and quicker response.
