Newest Ford Sales Almost Boot Toyota Out of Lead
Watching the race between Ford sales and Toyota sales is like watching a staring contest—and it looks like Toyota might blink soon. According to a recent news report, Ford Motor Company is closing in on Toyota as the most popular retail brand as the Japanese brand continues to lose its percentage of the U.S. retail market share.
According to IHS Automotive, Toyota’s U.S. retail market share has fallen from 16.3 percent in 2008 to 13.5 percent last year. While this 2.8 percent decrease might not seem major, think again—it just so happens that Ford Motor Company gained that exact percentage in their retail sales share, increasing it to 13.2 percent. That’s what you call stealing candy from the mouth of babes.
Many believe the decrease of Toyota’s impact on the American market over the past six years is due to a variety of safety recalls, natural disasters, and Ford presenting stiffer competition in the hybrid market than ever before.
