The 2017 Chrysler 200 is the latest vehicle from FCA to earn a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

In order to earn this prestigious honor, the new Chrysler 200 earned five-star ratings in each of the NHTSA’s three crashworthiness examinations. These three tests simulated how the Chrysler 200 midsize sedan would respond to a frontal collision, a side-impact collision involving two vehicles, and a side-impact collision that included an object such as a pole or tree.

The Chrysler 200 was able to achieve these high safety scores thanks to its unique body structure, which is made of more than 60% high-strength steel. These strong bones aid in mitigating the effects of a crash, as well as helping it maintain integrity when involved in a collision.

Standard safety features for the 2017 Chrysler 200 include traction and stability control, multiple airbags, and antilock brakes. In addition, a full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus system is offered with the Chrysler 200. This advanced piece of technology can alert the driver of potential collisions and even apply the brakes automatically if it detects that a frontal crash is looming.

The NHTSA five-star safety rating only applies to the front-wheel drive version of the 2017 Chrysler 200. This is because the AWD model has yet to be tested.

“The Chrysler 200 remains an outstanding value for many reasons, most notably its superior performance in various safety tests,” says Bruce Velisek, Director – Chrysler brand marketing, FCA US.

Other 2017 FCA vehicles to earn NHTSA five-star safety ratings include the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica and 2017 Dodge Challenger.
