Well, folks, it looks like the 2017 Dodge Challenger doesn’t just come out on top when it comes to performance. The sporty Challenger’s body currently consists of nearly 60% of high-strength steel. Dodge’s use of this strong material helped the Challenger earn top-notch ratings in the NHTSA’s vehicle side-impact test and pole side-impact tests. Other safety systems that helped contribute to the 2017 Challenger’s high safety rating is the supplementary restraint systems, which include standard driver and front-passenger air bags, along with front and rear side-curtain air bags.

“This proves the 2017 Dodge Challenger is much more than a great-looking car,” says Mike Dahl, Head of Vehicle Safety and Regulatory Compliance for FCA North America. “It reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional occupant safety in every vehicle segment.”

One of the biggest safety features to note in the 2017 Dodge Challenger, though, was the muscle car’s available Forward Collision Warning, which uses sensors to detect a potential front-end collision. The system pre-fills the car’s brakes when it does detect a collision, while also warning the driver with audible and visual signals.

Overall, the 2017 Challenger model has over 70 available safety features, ranging from the aforementioned Forward Collision Warning to Blind-Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path. So, the next time you check out the 2017 Dodge Challenger, don’t just look at it for its pretty face—remember that it’s one of the safest vehicles in its class, too.
