The 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 is among the models being investigated for a potentially fatal flaw with the clutch.

The Detroit News is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating 110,000 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy duty pickup trucks from the 2004-2006 model years

and their potential like to one death. The affected trucks, which are equipped with manual transmissions, are said to have issues with the clutch interlocks.

According to NHTSA, three separate instances have been reported wherein the trucks were able to be started without needing to depress the clutch. In one incident, an individual doing work under the hood of a truck was struck by the vehicle when it was put into drive. While this particular incident did not result in any injuries, another incident from August 2013 had a far more tragic outcome.

“One complaint involved an incident that occurred when a child was able to enter the vehicle and start the ignition without depressing the clutch. The vehicle then moved forward striking another child resulting in a fatality,” NHTSA told Detroit News.

No formal recall notice has been issued, but it is said that Chrysler has been fully compliant with NHTSA’s investigation. A Chrysler representative told Detroit News that “customer safety is paramount.”

We will have more information on any potential recall of the Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 as it becomes available.
