The Aguscalientes Powertrain Plant manufactered its 10 millionth engine this week

Yesterday, Nissan celebrated a significant milestone at its powertrain plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico: the production of the facility’s 10 millionth engine. Nissan Mexico held a commemorative event at the plant, which was hosted by Renault-Nissan Alliance global director and corporate vice-president of Powertrain Production Engineering Atsushi Hirose, deputy general manager at the Powertrain Planning Department Naohiko Asai, and powertrain plant director Francisco Carbajal.

The Aguascalientes Powertrain Plant has been operating for 32 years, and current production covers seven different engines on four different production lines. The result is one engine every 16 seconds for models including the Sentra, Versa, March, NOTE, Tiida, Tsuru, NP300, NV200, and Livina.

The plant is also prepping two new lines for two new engines, one of which is a US-bound hybrid (is it too early to hope that it’s for a Rogue Hybrid or…dare we say it…a GT-R hybrid supercar?).

According to projections, the Aguascalientes Powertrain Plant will produce 834,000 engines for domestic use alone by year’s end.

The ceremonial 10 millionth engine? An HR16 with XTronic transmission, which will be dropped into a Versa that will be sold in the United States. So if you’re thinking about buying a Versa sometime this year (and let’s face it, who isn’t?), then you may end up with a piece of history under your hood.
