nissan_habitat_for_humanity_property_brothersThroughout the month of April, teams from Habitat for Humanity and its sponsors, including Nissan, were hard at work on two houses for its Home is the Key campaign. On April 26th the two homes were successfully completed and a key dedication ceremony was held to mark the occasion.

Habitat for Humanity’s Home is the Key campaign was a push to spread the word about the critically low levels of affordable housing in this country. This special building project all started with the introduction of the two chosen families on the Today Show. Ashlee and Amanda are both single mothers in Nashville who were working hard to try and get their children into safe and spacious homes.

With the help of Twins Drew and Jonathan Scott, also known as the Property Brothers, the build on their new homes started in early April with the goal of finishing before the end of the month. On the day of the dedication ceremonies, Amanda, Ashlee, and the volunteers were still working hard laying sod in the yards. They took a break to cut ribbons in front of the doors and be welcomed home by the Scott brothers.

“Americans clearly recognize the strong and growing need for affordable housing,” said Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International. “That recognition is important, but we can’t stop there. Through the Home is the Key campaign, we’re delivering tangible ways people can take action to support more affordable housing in their own communities. We can’t thank Nissan and their customers enough for their support of affordable housing in the United States.”

We are so excited for Ashlee, Amanda, and their families to move into their safe homes. We’ll be sure to cover future partnerships between Nissan and Habitat for Humanity here.
