GT-R in Le Mans 2015Audi, Porsche, and Toyota have been put on notice, and their status as Le Mans favorites is now in serious jeopardy after Nissan announced that it will run a GT-R in Le Mans 2015.

The teaser above is appropriately creepy, replete with cockroaches and millipedes crawling across flashlight-lit woodscapes, horror movie score, and ominous “It’s coming” message. More or less, Nissan wants you to know that its competitors are like promiscuous teenagers experimenting with recreational drugs at a creepy cabin in the woods, and that the GT-R is a hockey mask-wearing, chainsaw-wielding maniac looking to cut into their grasp on the world’s most famous endurance race.

GT-R in Le Mans 2015“Innovation is at the heart of everything we do,” said Nissan’s Chief Planning Officer and Executive Vice President Andy Palmer. “There is no better place to demonstrate innovation than here in Europe’s new hot-bed of digital marketing and, from next year, on track at Le Mans. We have chosen this venue [Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, London] – and made it a celebration, rather than yet another press conference – to reflect the fact that when we go racing, we do so differently.”

Palmer was joined by NISMO President Shoichi Miyatani, Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) President Pierre Fillon, and NISMO Global Head of Brand, Marketing and Sales Darren Cox for the announcement that Nissan will run two LM P1 cars in the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship.

The Nissan GT-R LM NISMO returns the automaker to Le Mans not with the intention of making a splash, but of upending the whole pool. Running a GT-R in Le Mans 2015 displays one clear end goal: when the whole damn thing.

Hard to think they don’t have as good a shot as any to do just that.
