Nissan Brand Nets 100,000 Sales in Canada

In November, Nissan Canada announced that it had surpassed 100,000 annual sales for the first time in company history. A month later, the inevitable happened when the Nissan brand itself chalked up its 100,000th sale in Canada for the first time ever.

Previously, the Nissan brand’s best annual sales mark in the Great White North had been 82,604 in 2013. With a little more than a week left on the calendar for 2014, it’s a safe bet that Nissan will obliterate last year’s tally by as many as 20,000 units.

The record-breaking 100,000th unit was a Nissan Pathfinder, which was sold to Rikki Solitario at Willowdale Nissan in Thornhill, Ontario. (While we’re not 100% sure, we’re mostly certain that Solitario was never the lead guitarist for an ‘80s hair metal band, but we wouldn’t be terribly surprised if it came out that he was at one point or another.)

“This is a wonderful achievement to share with our employees and dealer network during the holiday season and is the direct result of hard work, partnership with our dealers and planning to bring the right cars to Canadians,” says Christian Meunier, president of Nissan Canada Inc. “This was a particularly exciting year for the Canadian team with the launch of the Nissan Rogue and Micra, both very successful in Canada.”

Indeed, the Micra has been a big boon for Nissan Canada in 2014: sales of the supermini hatch topped 7,000. The Micra’s $9,998 starting tag makes it the most affordable new car in all of Canada.

The Rogue has been Nissan’s biggest seller, moving 26,729 units through the end of November, marking an impressive 78% year-over-year sales increase.
