Nissan Breaks Sales Records in 2015

2014 was a record-breaking year for Nissan, when the automaker sold 1,827,964 vehicles in the United States during the fiscal year. The sales success was met with celebration, but clearly Nissan didn’t sit on its haunches for long. The powerful performance of the automaker continued into the 2015 fiscal year, with demand helping the production side of the business break records as well. The automaker has officially announced this month that fiscal year 2015 was another record-breaking year for sales in the United States.

According to Nissan North America, the Nissan and Infiniti brands sold a combined 2,009,119 units in fiscal year 2015. For Nissan, the fiscal year ended on March 31, 2016. This high sales number has made Nissan the second-best selling Japanese brand in the United States, behind their competitor Toyota but ahead of Honda. While Nissan itself is Japanese, the brand announced with its fiscal year results that 85% of vehicles sold in North America were also manufactured here. This is largely thanks to an investment of more than $18 billion into North American manufacturing over the past 20 years.

Nissan’s market share in the United States and Canada also grew in 2015. In Canada, Nissan’s share grew from 6.3% to 6.9%, and in the States it grew from 8.4% in 2014 to 8.6% in 2015. Overall in North America, Nissan’s share grew from 9.2% to 9.6%.

The automaker credits the launch of several new and refreshed models, like the Nissan Maxima, Murano, and Altima, with it sales successes this year.
