2015 Nissan Rogue Performance

Nissan is known for its electric and hybrid technology (the LEAF is one of the best-selling EVs in the whole world).

However, generally speaking, hybrids of SUVs are rarer, which is why it’s good to hear that Nissan brought along its X-Trail Hybrid (that’s the Nissan Rogue here in the States) to the Tokyo Motor Show, even though the X-Trail Hybrid was released in Japan back in April.

The hybrid SUV is powered by a 2.0-liter gas engine (which produces 145 hp and 153 lb-ft of torque) coupled with an electric motor (which produces 40 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque). Combined with Nissan’s Xtronic continuously variable transmission, this powerplant gives the X-Trail Hybrid a total combined 48.5 mpg—an astonishing fuel economy figure for any SUV.

The X-Trail/Rogue, as we know, has been a commercial success, but the Hybrid version is still limited in sales range. United States consumers can only buy an X-Trail/Rogue with a 2.5-liter gas engine, which puts out 170 hp.

Honestly, we wish Nissan would bring the X-Trail/Rogue Hybrid to the US—it would add a dash of environmental friendliness (not to mention electric instant torque) to the otherwise gas-powered American SUV market.
