Nissan Canton Completes Latest Habitat for Humanity Home
It’s hard to log on to social media anymore without being accosted by negative news and views of the world. Here at The News Wheel, we wanted to make sure that you got a good dose of happy news today, so we present the story of Nissan’s latest Habitat for Humanity home in Mississippi.
The house is being built by volunteers from Nissan’s Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant working with Humanity Mississippi Capital Area. Located in the Richard Circle neighborhood, the volunteers have donated hundreds of hours so far during the eight-day build spread out from February to April of this year. Of course, this is part of Nissan USA’s ongoing partnership with the national Habitat for Humanity organization that has been going on since 2005 after hurricanes Rita and Katrina.
Working alongside Nissan volunteers is Mildred Daughtery and her son, the lucky family that has been chosen to live in the house once it is completed. It is part of Habitat for Humanity’s rules that the future homeowners invest their own time into the building of the house so that it truly becomes their own. When interviewed about her new home, Mildred said “This is a wonderful blessing that Nissan and Habitat for Humanity are doing for my family. My late husband and I had dreamed of owning a home. I know he is looking down from heaven, smiling, and he is grateful to everyone who is helping me and my son.”
This is the tenth home that Nissan’s Canton employees have helped to build, and we look forward to many more stories about their good works.
