Nissan Celebrates 10 Millionth Vehicle Built in Tennessee
A Nissan manufacturing plant in Smyrna, Tennessee hit an incredible milestone on October 15. Nissan has been building cars in Smyrna for about 30 years now, and all that history is now represented in one big figure: the 10 millionth vehicle built in Tennessee rolled off the line that day. The Smyrna plant produces the Altima, Pathfinder, Xterra, Frontier, and Sentra—and now Nissan will introduce the Rogue to Smyrna as well.
“Momentum continues as we add new products, jobs and investment to our U.S. manufacturing operations,” Susan Brennan, Nissan’s vice president of manufacturing in Smyrna, said. “For more than 30 years, the Smyrna plant has been building high-quality vehicles, and today’s milestone serves as further testament to the flexibility, efficiency and talent of our U.S. workforce.”
Nissan’s decision to manufacture the Rogue in Tennessee reflects a company-wide focus to have products built where they are sold. As early as 2015, Nissan hopes that 85 percent of United States sales will come on vehicles built right in North America.
