Meet Nissan's "4-Door Sports Car"

2016 Nissan Maxima

Remember that slick looking car that surprised everybody during Nissan’s “With Dad” Super Bowl commercial? That car was the 2016 Nissan Maxima, and it just showed its face to the world for the first time at the New York International Auto Show.

Nissan is calling it their “4 Door Sports Car”, as it packs a 300 horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine and an Xtronic continuously variable transmission. “CVT in a sports car?” you ask? Apparently this one has been given a wider ratio range that should provide stronger acceleration. At least the CVT will allow the V6 Maxima to get up to 30 miles per gallon on the highway while giving you more than enough passing power.

The exterior styling is a lot more swoopy and sharp than previous, more conservative Maximas, and its the latest to adopt Nissan’s new design language that includes the V-shaped grille.

The 2016 Nissan Maxima wouldn’t be a proper 21st century sedan if it wasn’t packed with endless amounts of safety features, so this one features Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Cruise Control, automatic emergency braking, cross traffic alert, blind spot warning, and more as options. It also offers a unique Driver Attention Alert system that monitors steering wheel inputs to see if you’re getting drowsy, then politely tells you to stop driving and get some rest.
