Nissan Design America Rio to Examine Trends, Fashion in Brazil
Nissan announced that they have opened a design studio (Nissan Design America Rio) in Rio de Janeiro in order to further connect with Brazil’s design-savvy customer base and create new and exciting products that speak to their need for fashion as well as function.
The move emphasizes the importance of the Brazilian marketplace to Nissan’s continued quest to earn a place among the world’s top automakers. From Brazil’s capitol, Nissan Design America Rio will investigate trends and tastes that drive the market and put Nissan closer to their ultimate goal of world domination.
“To Nissan, Brazil has been one of the key markets, and design can do more for the Brazilian market,” said Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. “We want to inject more of the energy and enthusiasm of the Brazilian people into our global products.”

Nissan Design America Rio joins Nissan Design America (San Diego, California), Nissan Design China (Beijing), Nissan Design Europe (London), Nissan Global Design Center (Atsugi-shi, Kanagawa, Japan), and the Creative Box, Inc. satellite (Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) in the company’s globally collaborative network of research and design studios.
NDA-R will be headed by Robert Bauer, who has more than two decades’ worth of experience in the industry and was responsible for the design of such concepts as the 2012 Nissan EXTREM Concept. NDA-R will also be responsible for seeking out and recruiting locally-grown talent and resources.
Nakamura is more than optimistic about Nissan Design America Rio, saying, “I have never seen this much enthusiasm for design in any other place.”
