The tornadoes that devastated Washington, Illinois, on November 17, 2013, took 29 lives, injured more than 350 more residents, and changed the lives of countless others. In the wake of every tragedy are uplifting stories of people coming together to do their part to help, and Nissan has joined that list, as the Japanese automaker has donated $10,000 to the Washington Rotary Club Foundation located in Washington, Illinois, to support recovery efforts.

“We were immediately moved to help, after witnessing the devastation and tragedy that the city of Washington endured during last month’s violent weather patterns,” said Bryan Dumais, regional vice president for Nissan’s Midwest Region, in a press release. “These financial contributions are a direct reflection on Nissan’s commitment to give back and show how much we care about the communities where we do business.”

In addition to Nissan’s direct contribution, the automaker has instituted its Matching Gift Program, which matches dollar-for-dollar any contribution a Nissan employee feels compelled to make up to $2,000 per contribution.
