Nissan Finally Announces 2016 LEAF Details (With New, Improved Battery)
Cue the tide of “turning over a new LEAF” jokes, as Nissan has announced (finally) the details of its 2016 model year for the distinctive electric car.
The biggest update that everybody wants to know about is “how big is the battery?” Shortly stated, the battery is larger, bringing it up to an estimated 107 miles of range—27% greater than before.

Well, that is, if you are willing to spend more money. As was suggested when an Indiana car dealer leaked information back in August, the larger battery comes on the higher trim levels, which come with a higher price tag.
All new Nissan LEAF models come with a federal tax credit of $7,500, and before it is subtracted from the MSRP, the base-level LEAF S (equipped with the older 84-mile battery) will bear an MSRP of $29,010. The next level up, the LEAF SV, will have an MSRP of $34,200, and the top-level model, the LEAF SL, with be $36,790.
The new battery for the higher models isn’t the only improvement, though. Nissan will also be adding a new infotainment system (NissanConnect) on all its models, with a 5-inch touchscreen on S models and Navigation plus a 7-inch touchscreen on SV and SL models.
