Nissan IDS Concept

The Nissan IDS Concept is one smooth ride, and the vehicle is making its first appearance in the US at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This zero-emission electric car is notably equipped with autonomous driving technology guided by state-of-the-art artificial intelligence.

Nissan is one of the automakers hardest at work on autonomous driving, so the concept is serving as a reminder of its developments and as a peek into the future. It is sticking to the proclaimed goal of self-driving technology on a production vehicle by 2020, and on the IDS concept this technology is referred to as Nissan Intelligent Driving. “Nissan Intelligent Driving improves a driver’s ability to see, think and react. It compensates for human error, which causes more than 90 percent of all car accidents. As a result, time spent behind the wheel is safer, cleaner, more efficient and more fun.” says Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn.

The vehicle does have a manual mode for owners to take the wheel, but the AI pilot should make that feature unnecessary. The program learns about the driver, their personal interests, schedule, and other habits to help enhance the driving experience, all while keeping the vehicle’s precious cargo safe.
