The Nissan INVITATION is the Hot Hatch We Deserve

It's also the hot hatch we need right now. So give it over, Nissan. Don't be a buncha jerks.

Nissan INVITATIONA week ago, Nissan revealed that they would be launching the Nissan Pulsar hatchback in Europe in order to get in on some of that sweet, sweet C-segment money. We posited that Nissan would probably make a killing among Gen Y drivers if they imported the Pulsar to the United States and offered a turbo variant to compete with the Fiesta ST/Focus ST, Mazdaspeed3, and Golf GTI while keeping prices low. We got to thinking, and no, actually. We don’t need the Pulsar in the States. We’re not saying that we don’t want a Nissan hot hatch, but simply that we want it to be less like the Pulsar and more like the Nissan Invitation. We need the Nissan Invitation.

Nissan INVITATION

Yeah, remember this guy? If not, drink it in. If so, drink it in. If you have eyes, drink it in.

The Nissan Invitation dropped at the Geneva Motor Show two years ago and went on to provide the foundation for the Note. So, yeah, technically there are already production versions of something tantamount to the Invitation available for purchase. If you’ve ever found yourself looking at pictures of the Note and thinking “badass hot hatch,” please raise your hand. Precisely. (We assume no one raised their hand; we can’t say for certain, however, because you are on the other side of the internet.)

But what we want is the Nissan Invitation and not something inspired by it. The Note is available in Japan and Europe and is, for all intents and purposes, the production version of the Invitation. But we want the unrestrained and uncompromised Invitation. One that hasn’t lost its aggression or its sense of style. One that retains the open glass panel sunroof, the navy cabin with white cloth seats punched up with orange trim, and the fiercer face.

Nissan. Do you want to make all of the money? Then you need to start thinking about giving us a turbocharged Nissan Invitation. Give us the Invitation, price it below the Fiesta ST, and then watch the money pile up.
