Nissan Leaf Deemed 2018 Green Car of the Year by Automotive Journalists at NAIAS

Beating out nine competitors, Nissan’s sales-leading all electric vehicle, the Nissan Leaf, has been named the 2018 FIPA Green Car of the Year. The inaugural title from the Inter-American Federation of Automobile Journalists (FIPA) was announced at the North American International Auto Show, currently underway in Detroit.
“This award is a clear example of Nissan’s global leadership in electric vehicles and autonomous driving technology under the vision of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, where the brand aims to improve people’s lives through a transformation in how vehicles are driven, powered and integrated into society,” said Luis Valls, Nissan Latin America’s chairman.
The sleekly styled 2018 Nissan Leaf is equipped with Nissan’s commitment to engineering innovations such as ProPILOT autonomous driving technology as well as ProPILOT Park tech, which takes over parking maneuvers. The 2018 Leaf offers drivers 150 horsepower and a driving range of approximately 400 km.
The new Nissan Leaf also incorporates advanced technology in the form of e-Pedal, which “allows the driver to start, accelerate, decelerate, and stop by increasing or decreasing the pressure applied to the accelerator,” according to Nissan. “When the accelerator is fully releases, ‘regenerative and friction brakes are applied automatically, bringing the car to a complete stop. The car holds its position, even on uphill slopes, until the accelerator is pressed again. The reactiveness of the e-Pedal maximizes EV driving pleasure.”
The Nissan Leaf made its debut in 2010, and since then has gone on to become the best-selling EV with 300,000 units sold, reports Nissan.
