2015 Nissan LEAF

For the first time in history, a plug-in electric vehicle sold more than 30,000 units in a single year. Add another record to the books for the pioneering Nissan LEAF.

As the best-selling electric car in the world, the Nissan LEAF offers a range of up to 84 miles on a single charge, making it practical for urban driving and light commuting duties. The LEAF’s replacement is expected to arrive in 2018 with an even better range rumored to top 186 miles.

Although gas prices are currently at their lowest in five years, many urban dwellers are tapping out of the volatile gas market in favor of a little increase in their power bill, and the LEAF’s sales numbers reflect that growing trend. The government is more than willing to help current gas-burners make the switch over to the EV world with the available $7,500 federal tax credit, leaving the cost of owning your very own LEAF around $22,000.2015 Nissan LEAF overview

Nissan’s goal with the LEAF is to bring practical, cost effective electric vehicles to the market, and it’s showing that the LEAF is a force to be reckoned with through undeniably strong sales. It’ll be interesting to see how these low gas prices will affect sales of electric vehicles, but the long-term outlook looks good for the LEAF to set yet another plug-in vehicle sales record in the near future.
