Nissan Manufacturing Recognized By ENERGY STAR

Nissan earns EPA ENERGY STAR Award

Nissan is committed to the environment, both with the fuel efficient and EV vehicles it sells and the facilities that make them. Nissan’s efforts to make their American facilities more energy efficient as won the gratitude of the federal government, and the EPA has chosen Nissan to be honored with the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year recognition. This is not an anomaly, either, as this is the fifth year in a row that Nissan has been recognized by the federal agency for its commitment to lowering energy usage in its plants.

To help lower energy consumption, Nissan’s American plants have made sure to stay on top of machinery repairs (malfunctioning machines oftentimes use more power), replacing lights with LED bulbs, changing paint processes, and building more efficient motors to run their facilities. According to the EPA and Nissan, these modifications to the plants have helped cut energy usage by a staggering 30%.

In addition to the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year recognition, Nissan’s Vehicle Assembly Plant in Smyrna, Tennessee was singled out for special recognition as it was certified by ENERGY STAR for the 10th year in a row. That’s a pretty big deal, considering that the facility builds more vehicles than any other plant in North America last year.

“Nissan is honored to once again be recognized as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the year,” said Rebecca Vest, vice president, Corporate Development and Social Responsibility. “We continue to make improvements to our operations that reduce our environmental footprint as we manufacture the highest quality vehicles sold in North America.”
