Nissan Notches Perfect CEI Score for Second Straight Year

Nissan is now a two-time winner in an award that is arguably more important than anything honoring its vehicles: the Human Rights Campaign’s 2015 Corporate Equality Index (CEI).

In last year’s CEI, Nissan scored a perfect equality score of 100. This score was determined by the company’s adherence to HRC’s standards for equal benefits for same-sex partners and spouses and transgender employees and dependents, competency on LGBT issues, and a public commitment to the LGBT community.

Nissan’s 2015 Corporate Equality Index score remained perfect, thanks to the fact that Nissan is one of 418 businesses to offer at least one health care coverage plan that is transgender-inclusive, hosted an HRC Summit at its Nashville headquarters in June, and sponsored the National Gay and Lesbian Journalists Association’s Chicago convention in August while simultaneously making a donation to its Connect Student Journalism Project.

Nissan also continues to run its own LGBT employee resource group, the Gay-Straight Alliance at Nissan (GSAN), which was responsible for putting together Nissan’s participation in Nashville’s 2014 Pride festival. A Nissan LEAF served as the pace car for the event’s Nashville Pride Equality Walk.

Side note: For a staggering fourth year in a row, Exxon Mobil scored a -25 for its refusal to provide benefits to LGBT employees and its continued undermining of efforts to end workplace discrimination.

Pull your head out of your ass, Exxon Mobil. Getting rich off of fossil fuels doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be dinosaurs yourselves.
